BGLC Tertiary Education Grant
1. INTRODUCTION
Betting Gaming and Lotteries Commission (BGLC) recognizes the need for academic advancement in order to foster economic development in Jamaica. The BGLC remains committed to assist in laying the building blocks for academic success for Jamaican citizens island-wide. The BGLC Tertiary Education Grant will provide assistance for full-time undergraduate students enrolled to attend an accredited local tertiary institution in Jamaica and is payable the first semester of the school term.
2. DEFINITIONS
a. Under Chapter two of the Jamaican Constitution, "Jamaican citizens" refers to persons born in Jamaica and persons born outside Jamaica of Jamaican parents.
3. ELIGIBILITY
a. Be a Jamaican citizen
b. BGLC Tertiary Education Grant will be awarded for full-time undergraduate students enrolled to attend accredited local tertiary institutions
c. An individual must be no older than twenty-six (26) years of age as of September 30th in the year of application.
d. Have a grade point average of a minimum 2.75 on 4.0 scale. GPA is confirmed by the official transcript submitted with the application.
a. The BGLC Tertiary Education grant will cover the following expenses:
- i. Tuition
b. The Grant does not cover any other expenses such as books, meals, transportation and room and board fees;
c. This award is eligible to full time undergraduate students pursuing degree and diploma programmes.
5. DURATION & VALUE OF GRANT
a. The duration and the value of the Tertiary Education Grant are dependent on the discretion of the management and board of directors of the Betting Gaming and Lotteries Commission (BGLC).
b. However, as a guide the BGLC Tertiary Education Grant is normally provided annually for the first semester of the school term (September - December).
c. The Betting Gaming and Lotteries Commission maintains the right to discontinue funding and the programme at any time it deems fit.
d. The BGLC Tertiary Education Grant awarded to a student may be withdrawn on the following basis:
- If the student was dishonest on the application for the Grant.
- Received funding from the BGLC Tertiary Education Grant more than twice.
- Deferred the semester at the local tertiary institution.
6. APPLICATION PROCESS
a. Interested individuals must complete the application provided by the BGLC at www.bglc.gov.jm and submit by the advertised deadline date.
b. The following must accompany the application:
i. Writing assignment of a topic to be determined and advised each year
- Writing Assignment must be 600 words, typed, and double spaced. The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is strictly prohibited in completing this assignment. Once detected the candidate will be disqualified.
iii. Official transcript or official CAPE/CSEC results.
iii. Certified copy of a government issued ID (Driver's Licence, Passport or National ID)
7. PAYMENT OF GRANT
Payments are not made to students directly. Payments will be made to the institution on the basis of an invoice addressed to BGLC from the institution.
